We are always working on ways to make the YouTube experience even better. Today we are beginning to roll out a feature called 'Smart Offline' on YouTube app that takes advantage of these cheaper mobile data rates as offered by your mobile operator, without requiring you to stay up late at night.
Smart Mode works pretty simple way, just tap on the grey download icon to move on to offline mode. Then a prompt will appear with an option 'Save Overnight', using your mobile operator's night data plan. Once you select the option, YouTube app will smartly schedule your video to download overnight. When you rise up in the morning the video will be ready for you to watch offline with no buffer.
This feature started rolling out for Airtel and Telenor subscribers from yesterday, and eventually will be rolled out to other subscribers soon. YouTube adds a note saying this feature will be visible only for mobile users with data connection and not for WiFi users.
Make sure you update your YouTube app to get this feature on your mobile phone.
