We have a stringent rule in place for checking promotional Calls and SMS but companies were finding ways to bypass them. There have been issues in its enforcement and with the new mobile app, it is easy for people to register a complaint against and help us in monitoring such activities.
Earlier telecom subscribers had an option to file a complaint by forwarding SMS to 1909 which is received from telemarketers and mentioning the mobile number including SMS received date in the same message The SMS option was available for SMS but not for calls, the alternate option was informing the telecom operator via customer care number or through email.
This process seems complicated to most of the users but using the DND services application you can easily file a complaint by selecting such SMS by - Complaint SMS UCC option and Calls by - Complaint VOICE UCC" option. To check the complaint status user can click on - UCC status option and for more details click on more option.
The DND services (TRAI) application is available for free for Android devices and soon will be launched for iOS devices.
