By 2017, English, Swedish and Arabic speakers will notice that Wikipedia is talking their language (literally). These are the first languages that Wikipedia is going to read using Wikipedia's synthesised speech platform.
The platform will be optimised for Wikipedia but is going to be available for free as open source. And can be used by any website that uses MediaWiki software on which Wikimedia is based.

Joakim Gustafson - Speech Technology professor of KTH said
The project is aimed to provide access to Wikipedia and Wikis to people who are facing difficulties to read or visually impairment. Initially, our focus will be on own language resources. Then we will be working on Basic English voice and Arabic voice which will be quite good.
Once these 3 languages are produced will be freely licensed and can be used for free by anyone, in line with the rules of Wikimedia Commons.
