We are happy to announce that WhatsApp will no longer charge any subscription fee.The annual subscription fee payment was asked to many of the old users who were using the app for 1 year. Many of them were hesitant to pay but in order to continue their relationship they have opted for 1$ subscription fee.
Whereas many of the users might not have debit/credit card or Google wallet account to pay the subscription fee. The company believes that approach of the annual fee to the users has not worked successfully, so the idea of fee cut down has come to a point.
People around the world like to use WhatsApp because it's free now, fast, simple and reliable. The company shares an example

The company has removed the 1$ subscription fee option on the many of the versions and still working on it to remove on all the versions. If your WhatsApp is asking to upgrade then contact to the company and they will help you out from this issue.
